MINISTRY OPPORTUNITIES AT CBC

Our ministries are an integral part of our church community. Whether you are a student, single or married a ministry opportunity exist for you to serve. Please review our ministry opportunities below and consider becoming an active member. If you have any questions about these ministries or would like to learn about other opportunities to serve then please contact us. Most opportunities require a monthly or bi-monthly commitment.

 

Children

Little Kids Club (3yrs-Kindergarten) Leader
Co-lead children’s discipleship ministry once a month during the worship service

Kids Club (1st-3rd grade) Leader
Co-lead children’s discipleship ministry once a month during the worship service

Growing in God (a.k.a G.I.G.) Upper Elementary
Co-lead messages for preteens during the sermon time

Nursery Worker
Assist in care of babies and toddlers during the worship service every 4-6 weeks

Hospitality

Greeter
Pass out bulletins before service and help with offering collection. Great ministry for friendly, outgoing people.

Brunch Preparation Helper
Help prepare brunch (cutting, chopping, etc.) Arrive about an hour before church

Coffee Crew
Prepare coffee and other drinks for 9:30am classes and brunch. Great behind-the-scenes service-oriented ministry; come early to prepare.

Care Ministry
Organize/provide rides to church and doctor appointments for those who have difficulty using public transportation. Organize/provide meals for new moms; visits/meals for those who are sick or shut in.

Music

Worship Team
Play an instrument or sing in leading congregation during Sunday worship. Auditions required.

Media

Soundboard (Training is provided)
Work the soundboard during church service. No experience necessary but an ear for music is helpful

Media Team (Training is provided)
Oversee power point presentation during worship service. Some sense of computers and music helpful.

Website
Help maintain/update the CBC website. Web programming/design skills need.

Email Oversight (computer expertise not needed)
Requires a current M.I.T. email account. Occasional intervention for the church-wide email list.

International

ESL Ministry to Internationals
Native English speakers needed to assist in English classes at M.I.T. on Thursdays, 1:00pm – 2:30pm.

Relational Ministry to Internationals
Host internationals at holidays and befriend through the year. Christian moms connect with new international moms

 

LOCAL PARTNERS AND ORGANIZATIONS WE SUPPORT

Paul and Elizabeth Biswas – Paul is leading Bengali Bible studies, prayer groups, and outreach efforts as well as leading the Boston Bangla Church.

Paul and Jan Bothwell -Paul is the team leader for Mission to the Americas Urban Ministry and church planting effort in Greater Boston and director of the Boston Urban Academy (URBACAD)

Paul and Amy Carter -Paul is the Metro Collegiate Director for The Navigators in Boston. He and Amy focus on discipleship and mentoring Grad Students and young professionals in the area, especially at Boston University, MIT and Eastern Nazarene College.

Michael and Michelle Dean (GBBA) -Michael is Director of Boston International Ministries, reaching out to international students, business people and consulates in Greater Boston while serving on staff in the Greater Boston Baptist Association (GBBA).



WE HAVE ALSO PARTNERED TO SUPPORT THE MINISTRIES BELOW

Abundant Life Counseling Center is a Christian Counseling center in Boston that provides individual and group counseling with a sliding fee scale based on ability to pay.

Boston International Ministries organizes special projects (Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter outreach events), day trips and Scripture distrubution along with other outreach events for international visitors in Greater Boston.

URBACAD, Boston (Conservative Baptist) provides Leadership Training in several languages for Christians in urban churches in the greater Boston area.



THE HARVEST FOOD PANTRY & CLOTHING CLOSET

The Harvest Food Pantry has been nurturing the physical and spiritual life of the community since 1989. Housed at the Cambridgeport Baptist Church, we serve individuals and families in need of food and clothing.

 

DATE & TIME

The Harvest is open the 1st and 3rd Saturday of every month from 9:00 to 11:00am (closed only for major holidays or severe weather)

 

ABOUT THE PANTRY

  • We distribute free grocery items including: dry goods, canned goods, bread, and fresh produce
  • Gently used clothing in good condition for minimal cost ($.25 to $1.00 per item; $5.00 limit per session)
  • There are no income restrictions to visit the pantry, but a personal identification card is required at the time of check-in
  • Customers are welcome to come both Saturdays; please do not arrive before 9 a.m., as a lottery system is used for queuing

INTERESTED IN VOLUNTEERING?

Each time the Harvest is open, we need about 20-25 volunteers to operate effectively.  If you are interested in volunteering please call the church office at 617-576-6779 or email (theharvestfoodpantry@gmail.com) for additional information.

 

VOLUNTEERING REQUIREMENTS

  • We encourage individuals to volunteer at any time, without making a reservation.  Groups of five or more should e-mail theharvestfoodpantry@gmail.com to schedule a time to volunteer together.
  • There is no age limit for volunteers, however, we children under the age of 18 should be accompanied by a parent, group leader or legal guardian
  • Volunteers must arrive promptly as scheduled
